Submissions

By the Glass is a premier literary magazine based in Western Kentucky and founded by the Draft & Drink Writers Group of The Book & Bottle Shop.

The Spring 2026 issue will be published in both print and online formats. Submissions are open to anyone with connections to the Western Kentucky region (Yes - this is intentionally vague. If you can make the argument, we will accept the connection). While there are no age restrictions, adults are the intended audience of this magazine.

The Spring 2026 issue will be the first published issue of this magazine and as such we are learning much along the way! We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate the ins and outs of creating a magazine from scratch.

Submission Restrictions:

Human Authored submissions only.
Only one submission in each genre per submitter.
Only unpublished work.
Simultaneous submissions are accepted, however any work accepted elsewhere must be withdrawn immediately. Withdraw by emailing thebookandbottleshop@gmail.com.
5,000 words maximum on prose submissions.
Up to five poems per submission. Please be sure all poems are in a single document before uploading.
All submissions are considered based on quality of writing above all else.

This magazine is intended to celebrate the artistry and creativity of writers in the region. While there are no themes or encouraged topics in this particular edition, we recommend choosing pieces in your portfolio that represent the very best of your skill and creativity as a writer.
